Our story
A home built on care and commitment

The Humanitarian Concern Centre (HCC) was founded with a simple mission: to provide a safe and nurturing home for children in need.
How It All Began
In the early 2000s, schoolteacher Buddhiman Pariyar and his wife Indrakala Pariyar noticed the increasing number of children in Kathmandu without stable homes or access to education. Many had lost their families due to the country’s civil conflict or extreme poverty. Wanting to help, they decided to open their doors and create a place where children could grow up with care, stability, and opportunity.
With no government support, Buddhiman rented a small house in Kathmandu and started the Humanitarian Concern Centre (HCC) Children’s Home. In the beginning, Indrakala sold tea in the mornings to help fund daily expenses, while Buddhiman reached out to the community for support. Despite challenges, they built a home where children could feel safe, go to school, and have a brighter future.

Impact of the 2015 Nepal Earthquake

In April 2015, Nepal was struck by a powerful earthquake that left thousands displaced and many homes and schools destroyed. The children at HCC were forced to relocate for safety, and while their current home provides shelter, it still lacks some essential facilities. Despite these challenges, the children have adjusted well, thanks to the kindness and generosity of those who support HCC.
Carrying the Mission Forward
In 2021, after years of dedication, Buddhiman passed away unexpectedly. Around the same time, Indrakala was diagnosed with a serious illness, making it difficult for her to continue running the home. Their daughter, Sushmita Pariyar, stepped in to continue their work, leaving her government job to take full responsibility for the children.
Today, HCC cares for 13 children, providing them with a safe home, education, and daily essentials. The journey has not been easy, and financial sustainability remains a challenge, but with the support of volunteers, donors, and well-wishers, the center continues to thrive.
Meet the Team
Our "staff" isn’t made up of hired workers. Instead, we are a family. The people who help run the home are either family members or young adults who grew up at HCC and now give back by supporting the younger children.
How can you support us ?
The Humanitarian Concern Centre relies on the support of volunteers and donors to continue providing a caring home, education, and a stable future for the children. Every contribution—whether time, resources, or financial support—makes a meaningful difference.

If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you!
